Press releases
Edina street and pedestrian path closed July 4, 5
Edina, Minn., June 27, 2008 -- At noon on July 4, 66th Street between West
Shore Drive and Cornelia Drive in Edina will be closed to vehicles and
pedestrians in preparation for the fireworks display that evening in Rosland
Park. Access to the pedestrian path around Lake Cornelia will also be closed at
those two points. The path will remain open, but pedestrians will not be able to
cross or travel east and west on 66th Street. Closures will remain in effect
until later the next morning.
Federal law requires a minimum safe distance between pedestrians/vehicles and
large fireworks displays. The closure is meant to keep people out of prohibited
areas. Once crews have enough sunlight to make sure the area is clear of all
explosive materials and debris, the road and pedestrian path will be reopened.
The City’s fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. Friday, July 4, after an 8:45 p.m.
concert by the First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band. The fireworks are
sponsored by Fairview Southdale Hospital.
If the fireworks display is rained out on Friday night and rescheduled to
Saturday, the closures will remain in affect until Sunday morning.
