Southdale shooting suspect arrested

Edina, Minn., March 3, 2009 -- Edina Police have arrested a juvenile male in connection with the shooting at Southdale Center on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009.

Late in the afternoon of March 2, a 16-year-old Hispanic male from Minneapolis was taken into custody for the gang-related shooting of two juveniles at Southdale on Feb. 27. The arrest occurred without incident, and Edina officers were assisted by the Minnesota Gang Strike Force.

During questioning by detectives, the juvenile admitted to his involvement in the incident and directed officers to the discarded handgun used in the shooting. Pending charges include attempted murder, and the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case for possible charging as an adult.
