Press ReleasesHometown resident named Deputy Chief of PoliceEdina, Minn., Jan. 2, 2008 -- Chief of Police Michael Siitari is pleased to announce the promotion of Lt. Jeff Long to the position of Deputy Chief. “Lt. Long brings a wealth of talent to the job and a wide range of experience. I’m looking forward to our new association,” said Siitari. Long, an Edina resident for more than 30 years, began his career with the Department as a Community Service Officer in 1987 and became a Police Officer in 1989. He has served as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant and lieutenant, and has led both the Patrol and Investigations Units. In addition to his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Long has studied at the Center for Public Safety at Northwestern University and went through the rigorous FBI National Academy. He is also an active member of several community groups, and believes that “…this is an exciting challenge and I’m honored to be able to serve in this new capacity.” Long began his new duties Jan. 2.
