Grandview Small Area Plan Process

After over 50 years of service, the Edina Public Works building on Eden Avenue near Highway 100 was abandoned last year when the City moved into a new facility. Recognizing the future use of the 3.3-acre site would have a big impact on how the entire GrandView District develops in the future, the City Council authorized a visioning process to guide future development of the area. The intensive, six-week-long process, led by 28 community members, produced seven Guiding Principles, which were approved by the City Council. With the help of a grant from the Metropolitan Council, the City is now engaged in a second phase of planning designed to generate a Small Area Plan for the GrandView District. This phase of the planning process is -- like the first phase -- community-led. The 50-member Steering Committee (made up of representatives from Edina's various Boards and Commissions, property and business owners from the GrandView District, a representative from Edina Public Schools and many interested residents) has been working since mid-April. It meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Edina Senior Center and also periodically in four work groups focusing on Community Needs, Transportation, Land Use, and Finance and Market Analysis. A Nine-Member Executive Committee made up of members of the Steering Committee provides direction between monthly meetings.
